Do yall just replace the spring and seat or do u replace the whole cartridge. I've had a plumber tell me he never has any luck just replacing the seat and springs he replaces the cartridge .When it just a dripper i dont see why changing out just the seat and springs wouldnt work.

especially since a new cartridge can set you back quite a bit vs. a few bucks for new seats and springs....
replace the seats and springs. lube up the cups and o ring on the cartridge and if that solves the leak then great, if not...then replace the cartridge.
a service plumber would probably replace the cartridge too because a call back is costly.

I always replace the entire cartridge. That way I don't have to worry about it sticking or leaking from the handle a few weeks after I repair it.

As a homeowner, I would replace just seals/springs. As a plumber, I would replace the works.

I support Doug and M&M. USUALLY replacing the seals and springs will fix the problem, but not ALWAYS. Cartidges can develop defects, wear patterns due to age, o rings can crack. Somtimes there can be hairline cracks because the heat went out in the winter. And and there is an X-Factor, where the homeowner tried to fix it, but did not necessarily have the knowledge, proper tools, etc, which may cause hidden problems. Each situation can be different, and it takes a careful assesment to figure it all out. The time for the service call is just about the same to rpl the cart and seals and springs. On alot of common faucets the cost of a cartidge is less than lunch money.
What is the cost of a call-back? It costs the homeowner time, frustration and hassle, and it can DOUBLE what a service person has to shell out. That's why it's better to do it right the first time. For all parties involved.

As a plumber, it's all about solving the problem the FIRST call. As a homeowner, if this Saturdays DIY wasn't successful, there's always next Saturday.

NO! Because we do NOT like "callbacks" and neither do our customers.
