We had someone work on our water softener and it seems to have air locked our toilet. No water will come out of the refill tube. How can I fix this? Thanks

this is where we get in trouble communicating over the internet.
by refill tube, do you mean the little 1/4" rubber/platic tube the spits water down the overflow?
if that is the case, shut off the water to the toilet, remove the tube from the toilet fill valve and try sticking a small wire into the opening.

There should be no connection between work on a softener and water coming out of the refill tube, UNLESS something clogged the fill valve so that the flow is too weak to divert any water to the refill.

Apparently shutting off the water in the basement (we have a well) and messing with the softener puts air in the lines. This same thing happened several months ago after they were out and a friend of the family who is a plumber fixed it for me but I didn't see what he did. I just remember him saying it was air locked. Thanks

i'm gonna say it is 99.99% impossible to get an 'airlock' in a fill valve to a toilet.
it has to be debris.

That is an a*****e statement. Drain lines can get "air locked". Water lines under pressure CANNOT. As soon as a faucet, or toilet, is used the water pressure pushes ANY AIR out of the piping.

Interesting. I'm a novice to plumbing but thought it sounded reasonable since we had a lot of air in the pipes after they were done working. I'll check for a blockage. Thanks

Ok so after not being able to find a blockage I contacted the guy that fixed it for me last time and he walked me through the fix.
FYI here is what I did:
1. Shut off the well pump.
2. Turn on the faucet next to the toilet and let it run until it stopped.
3. Turn the well pump back on.
These 3 easy steps cleared the air and the refill tube started filling the toilet tank.
