 Home Improvement Contracto
Author: yonson (SC)

I am researching getting insurance and registering as a Home Improvement Contractor in NJ. It looks like I can do most things with being registered... but... what can I do and not do with plumbing? I have been looking on NJDCA website and other areas and can not find a specific list of things I will be able to do or not do (regarding plumbing). Can anyone direct me to such information, and/ or have an ideas?

The only thing I'm seeing, is to do plumbing or electrical work in New Jersey, requires you to get a plumbing and/or electrical "license", in addition to the HIC or General
Contractor "registration".

In MD, you can repair faucets without a license. That's about it. The rest of the guys (bath/kitchen remodel, home improvement, etc.) do all types of plumbing and fly under the radar.

You would have to check with the authorities. Here, you would be able to do anything that does not require a permit, as long as the ENTIRE job, not just the plumbing part, was under $1,000.00.

Hey Yonson,

The home improveemnet contractor license issued by DOBI is important who executes
financed home repair contracts on the goods or services provided to New Jersey consumers for home repair work.
A home repair contractor who deals strictly in cash installment payments over a period of 90 days or less or accepts credit card payments does not need to obtain this license.
