 help to ID shower valve
Author: tab a (KS)

This is from a fairly old tub/shower valve. Both are worn and need replacing. Is it possible to figure out the brand and availability?

Can't see anything from around the handles, and to see the back of the faucet assy. would take opening up a kitchen wall--which I don't mind doing, if it's necessary/will help.

Thank you.

It looks like a Delta stem to me, but I can't see the top side to be sure.
If it is Delta as I believe it is, the parts are easily found in many big box stores and nearly every plumbing supply house. The only reason I can see that someone wouldn't have them is that they are sold out. The two handled Delta tub/shower faucet doesn't have the pressure balancing or thermostatic requirements to be installed in new construction due to code requirements, but I have found them at Westlake Ace hardware stores almost everywhere. If you are around the Kansas City area, Plumber's friend is a good resource to call ahead. The staff of both stores are experts, and are used to identifying thingies and dohickies from the general public.

It looks to be a Delta (Peerless) stem extension. Probably would be a good idea to go ahead and replace the cartridge and seal while you're in there.
