At a commercial laundry facility (Cintas) they have a 4" FEBCO 860 RP Backflow Preventer. They experianced a No water situation which they (And I) traced back to the backflow preventer. there is 60 psi before the #1 check but practically 0 psi after the #1 check. After disassembling the #1 check and reassembling, water restored to plant. (Rubber parts were replaced two years ago by me) Now two days later they are experiancing a greater presure loss through device than normal (60psi before BFP and 30psi after BFP). They are concerned as they have to shut down production with no water.
Any comments as to why/how this happened and why the exagerated presure loss. I have not come accross this problem before and have over 20 years backflow experiance. Febco tech support did not have any answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do not know backflow devices and I am not certified--
While checking a random rpz installation and troubleshooting guide I ran across this:
problem: Valve quickly and repeatedly fouls following servicing
reason: Debris in pipeline is too fine to be trapped by strainer
solution: Install a finer mesh strainer element in the strainer.
Like I said I don't know anything about RPZ valves, but if there was debris in the main and it got to the RPZ then it would be logical that
1) Fine debris may have fouled the RPZ on your initial call
2) Larger debris was caught in the strainer as well, and is now acting like a flow restrictor

When you removed the swing check... did you test them for the way they swung? Is the water prefilters before it enters the backflow?
