Ice maker question:

Is there an adapter that I can use to hook up a standard drain line to a 1/2" PVC pipe?

Thanks in advance!

Ice maker drains require an air gap to the drainage system in my area. I just drop the 1/2" pvc over a funnel made from a 4" X 1 1/2" reducing coupling.

Is the ½" the drain pipe exiting the ice maker? You can't directly connect the ice maker to the premises' drain piping. The ice maker drain needs to have an airgap between it and the premises piping.

This is the site for the ice maker. Does that help? Is there any way to connect an ice maker to this drain pipe?

Is the drain line the ?pvc in the back corner?

I can't tell from the picture but you can't make a watertight connection, it has to have room to overflow so that waste can't back up into the machine.

Something like this is typical:

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, that is the drain pipe in the back left of the image. The funnel would work perfectly if I had a vertical pipe or floor drain. Would an elbow joint connected to the horizontal drain pipe work?

if by 'elbow joint' you mean a 'p trap' - yes

you MUST have:

air gap - 1" minimum / 1/4" would be cheating

trapped drain assembly / think 'sewer gas'

ps. bite the bullet and have a plumber install a floor drain - also good for any future 'flood'

Thanks for the honesty and recommendation for a floor drain. I plan to go that route.
