 Leak in Soldered Connection
Author: tgraf79 (CA)

This morning I had my exterior pressure regulator replaced and as part of the replacement the old threaded connection was removed and a new section of pipe was soldered on. About 10 hours after the repair I noticed the soldered connection leaking slightly, just a few drips but fairly constant. I'm going to contact the plumber who did the work first thing tomorrow, but in the meantime do I need to shut off the water supply to the house? Will the pipe under pressure cause the leak to get larger?
Thanks!

Generally speaking once the pipe starts to leak it doesn't tend to leak any faster. Chances are that there is a tiny void in the solder that is allowing water through which is why it took so long to appear. Unless the leak is in an area that is causing damage, it shouldn't be a big concern over the space of a number of hours while you wait for the plumber to come back.
