Hi,
I was at a meeting for start-up businesses and one had a residential waste sytem valve product that they want to develop. It was interesting but afterwards I was thinking about it: don't plumbing devices need some type of agency or gov't approval to be offered for sale? If so, who is the agency that approves devices/fixtures?
Thanks.

You bet. They usually need more than one stamp of approval.

You are asking about two different situations. They CAN produce and market anything they want to. But, if it is going to be inspected after installation it DOES have to certified by an agency such as IAPMO. The process is expensive and ongoing, so many small companies just sell their product in big box and hardware stores, or over the Internet, and let the buyer deal with it.
