Venting A Laundry Tray Pump System
Author: rneydl (PA)

I'm installing a laundry tray pump system to drain a basement utility sink into a higher (4' above floor) drain pipe. The nearest access to the house vent system is over 40' away, and very difficult to access. Are there any other options to vent the laundry tray pump system?

The sink is adjacent to the washing machine, and I plan to drain the washer into the sink, (and then into the tray pump system) and pump the tray into the washer drain box affixed to the wall. The wall box was installed by a licensed plumber, and has a trap between it and where it enters the main drain pipe. Is there any issue with pumping the tray into the washer box drain, and does this concept affect the venting options?

Thanks in advance!!!

you don't pump into a trap standpipe. you pump into the drain downstream of the trap and it's vent.
you can vent the pump thru the roof.
do not use an automatic air admittance valve. it will not work on a pump..

Thanks Packy! I appreciate the advice about tying in to the drain line past the trap, and I had wondered about using an AAV and you answered that. However, taking a vent up through the roof is problematic (really, really problematic). Is there another option?

no other option than an atmospheric vent
