Hi All,
I have a mixet shower valve. The temperature regulating knob is getting very hard to turn and I figure its time to do something about it.
Pictures are below. Is there anyway to clean this out to make it work smoothly. Or lubricate it. Or do I have to replace the cartridge. Is this easy to do for a non-plumber but passable handyman.
I think the cartridge is Mixet MS5AT-C 4-1/2 Inch Single Control Shower Valve Cartridge Stem.
But I am at a loss on how to proceed to switch it out. Will I have to get in to the wall. Dont want to do that.
Thanks all.

You unscrew that piece in the lower photo and pull the stem out. If there has been leakage, it may not unscrew and then you have to carefully cut it off. Make sure the round handle does not touch the lever handle when you put it back together. You will not know if you have the long or short version until you take it out, but IF you have the long version, there will be a "half moon" clip on the right side somewhere in the threaded area.

So I replaced my mixet shower valve with a Danon from Lowes.
I was able to replace the cartridge but there is now a problem. Please see this video I shot which will explain it better than I can. [youtu.be]
Not sure what I did wrong. Basically, the hot/cold handle moves with the on off handle. When I open the valve suddenly the valve jumps and then the water starts flowing forcefully. When I close the valve the temperature handle moves backwards.
Any help will be appreciated.

I replaced the mixet cartridge which works but it is still extremely difficult to adjust the water temperature.
The new stem worked smooth before installing it. The old one did once I pulled it out.
I suspect the problem is in the pipe. I attempted to clean the pipe well before I installed the new one, but there's no difference.
Is there anything else that the problem could be.
