The vent stack going through the roof at camp breaks off when the snow/ice slide off every spring. Tried moving it along the angle of the roof to within 4 feet of the peak and it still broke. Can I vent it though the wall under the eave (that would be about 5 1/2 feet from the ground at the back of the camp, or do they always have to go though the roof. Also would using a steel pipe be possible. (450 sq ft camp with 1 toilet/shower/2 sinks, used seasonally)

They make things to control the snow coming off metal roofs. They are generally placed over doorways, and such. They basically stop the snow from sliding off at that point. A couple of those placed in line and above the pipe should solve that problem. [www.amazon.com]

Use cast iron piping and fasten it securely in the rafters- ceiling joists.
You won't have to worry about a broken vent pipe again.
