I can't figure this out. When you turn the bathtub water on then pull up the knob on the spigot the shower only comes out half power and most times if you try a few times it will finally work. Ive changed spigot I've put new rubber gasket on the stop I've adjusted the water pressure at the main but 4 years of this and I've had enough. Please help

Are you saying that too much of the water continues going into the tub?

You've changed the "spigot", replaced the washer, and adjusted the pressure. Have you checked or replaced the shower head? That seems to be where the problem is. What is the make and model of your faucet?

IN that case, it might not be a DIY job.

What type of water supply piping do you have? If you have galvinized water lines in your house this could be the problem. Also if it was a budget renovation with an inexperianced crew they could have done any number of things that could restrict or limit flow to the shower. Ive seen where people had put 3/8 angle stops with faucet supply's going to the shower. Obviously if there is anything like this going on then your problem is not with the valve itself.

3/8 supply stops won't limit the volume like that. The shower head has a restriction device that could be clogging or overly restrictive though. The internal waterways in most shower valves are smaller than 3/8 inch. Delta are only about 3/16 inch diameter through the seats.

Ya if the stops are full of galvanized pipe rubbish or mineral deposits they will just like the valve itself will. Or if they were closed and not fully opened. This is all hypothetical though. My main question was about the supply piping and installation materials. The angle stops and supplies were just a what ive seen comment as far as installation materials gone wrong. Lets enclose some angle stops and flexable supply lines in the wall. Great idea that way we can use the compression type and not have to know how to solder.

I have seen it in mobile homes where there was polybutylene tubing in the walls. Sometimes you do what you have to even when a misplaced torch might be a good thing.

Ya theres alternate right ways though. Poly in the walls was up to code during the days before the lawsuits. Had a guy from Texas tell me they had to repipe 10 brand new houses because of the Poly. Hes going owner builder on his house over here and bought sharkbite pex. No experience with it personally but recently even the crimp style pex is starting to show its weaknesses. I only use Uponor. The only time I ever saw that stuff leak was when I just started learning and was installing using the no twist and hold open for thirty seconds to get you more time connections. On the brass style fittings. My boss almost fired me and made me take a class offered by the Uponor distributer. Never had a leak since then and that was about 10years ago. I prefer copper though.

Its all copper 3/8 but even with the shower head off it still does the same.

If your up to it. Pull the cartridge and check the flow out of the valve body. When you say changed the rubber on the stop are you talking about the flat head screw shut offs before the valve body or the rubber seats and springs? It could be a peice of debris floating around in there. It all depends on the brand. Maybe take a picture of the valve cartridge.
