My bathroom toilet seems to continually make a noise like its finishing the flush process. In other words, it flushes normally and water fills the tank from a hose, but the hose won't stop the water flow. This wont' stop. But, the toilet never over flows.
What is wrong and what needs to be done to fix it?

Something going on with the fill valve. Exactly what is unknown until you look in the tank.If you have no dea what you're looking at...it might be best to call a plumber. In the mean time, close the stop valve so the water stops running.

If you call a plumber, just have them change out the fill valve. The labor cost will be the same as rebuilding it, and the parts are about $8 difference.

I disagree. If they call a plumber, He or She should be able to do a complete assessment of the condition of all the working parts and replace whatever needs to be done. I would not tell a pro that knows alot more about what they are doing than I do what parts they need to replace.
If the fill valve is crappy, what about the flapper? Is the pull chain kinked?
Telling a plumber to ONLY change the fill valve is like driving a car with 4 bald tires to a tire store and telling them to only change the one that's flat.
Respectfully.

Graduate of the school of hard knocks. I agree with you 100% the op probably has a bad fill valve. My point is, that may not be the only thing under the lid that needs service. Several parts inside the tank have a limited life, esp. depending on the age, length of service, and whatever the last monkey who monkeyed with it did. I do NOT tell the trusted mechanics that service my vehicles WHAT to replace, unless they give me a choice.
