I have an Elements of Design kitchen faucet. I believe it is the same as Kingston Brass, The cold water cartridge broke and they sent me by mistake a replacement hot water cartridge. Can I just use the hot water cartridge in the cold side? Thanks for your help.

Most likely it will work, but the handle may turn improperly. Some cartridges have hot and cold that are made for lever handles, so that they turn forward and inward to operate, but non-lever type generally use identical cartridges. Using a hot in a cold side will cause a lever faucet to have the cold twist away and backwards to operate, a counterclockwise motion instead of the correct clockwise motion. It will get the faucet working until the company sends you the correct parts.

Some manufactured cartridges can be used for both hot and cold. Other companies use different cartridges for each side. Have you checked?

I will have to check with the company on Monday. Closed on the weekends and I just got the part Saturday and discovered they sent me the wrong one. As this is a two handled faucet it may work anyway as KCRoto suggests. It looks like it will work but this is a wall faucet and somewhat of a pain to fool with so I guess I will wait to make sure on Monday.
Thanks to both for your help.

If it has round, or cross, handles they use the hot cartridge on both sides. if it has lever handles the cold is different, but some hot ones can be reversed to make it work correctly. If not the handle will just rotate backwards until you get the correct one.
