In a stall shower I have two screw type faucets. I have to replace the cartridges frequently due to leaking. I want to convert to ceramic cartridges. I have access to the plumbing if I remove some sheetrock. The house is 28 years old with copper plumbing. Is it possible?

Yes, if you can find an two handle faucet with ceramic discs.

I have seen the gerber ceramic stems, but been unable to change the faucet over. It was supposed to be as simple as removing the stems and seats, then swap for the new ones, but the seats would not come out; they simply crumbled. If you plan on opening up the wall regardless, I would simply put in a single handle thermostatic valve. If you don't plan on replacing the tile right away, they make trim plates that cover the old holes. A direct answer to your question is yes, it is possible; the replacement faucet will make the job 'worth it' or not. Find a valve that works best for you, and that you like; don't get hung up on ceramic stems/cartridges.

Out of curiosity, do you have problems with your toilets eating up fill valves?

Now would be a good time to convert over to a single control faucet.

Generally, people that have a lot of problems with compression stems leaking have a problem with high water pressure as well.
