 Well Pressure Tank Leak
Author: bw99 (MD)

Hello,

I have a leak that I think is originating from my pressure tank (despite the fact its only a year old) I've checked all of the pipes, ball joints, and fittings connected to it and they are all dry. I can't see a leak from the tank its self, but from process of elimination, I figure it has to be there. The wall behind it is well sealed concrete so I dont think the water on the floor could be coming from behind the wall. The tank walls, and what I can see from underneath the tank appear to be dry, so I dont think condensation could be the culpret

There is no obvious shut off for the line coming from the well to the tank, and I am wondering how would I go about shutting off the water to the tank. Would tripping the attached breaker shut off the water coming from the well? Also, any advice for patching a tank once I find the leak?

It wouldn't hurt to place a fan directed on the tank for a day or more since the humidity has been high for the last few days. Also, check the wall penetration for moisture where the well pipe enters. The tank will have at least a 5 year warranty. The pump can be shut off at the circuit breaker.

Ok, that sounds like a good idea. Thank you! Unfortunatley the tank was installed before I bought the house, and I dont see any warranty information on the tank its self. But I will do some googling, to see if I can track down a phone number.
