 Flex Connectors on UV Sterilizers?
Author: BigReg1500 (CT)

Hi all,
I have a UV sterilizer on my main line(well setup), and noticed one of the copper/brass unions has started to leak. I probably misaligned or over cranked it and deformed the mating surfaces at some point.

Would a flex connector be permitted for use in this application, or do I have to choose between hard pipe and union? The UV appliance is wall mounted, with little room for a torch, so if I can move 15-18" away and just sweat on an adapter to the line, using a flex would work on the UV connection without setting the wall on fire...

thanks

if you are asking about the type used on water heaters, sure will be fine...

Do you recommend the braided SS lines or corrugated copper?

Thanks as always.

corrugated copper

the braided s/s is merely an 'overwrap' over vinyl tube - lipstick (on a toilet they 'may' prevent a dog from chewing through)

I see corrugated stainless connectors listed as well. Any comparison - that vs copper?

I'm with most plumbing advisers here .... stainless flex on the outside while having plastic waterways on the inside is an illusion of being stainless and not as good as all stainless.

Quality all stainless flex connectors (no plastics inside) to me is superior to any brand of all copper flex connector due to dissimilar metal compatibility issues.

Copper in most cases is better than plastic waterway flex connectors however copper can't take low pH nor is it good in dissimilar metal situations.

Thanks Vic. Yeah, it was the CSST connector that I saw, not the braided over vinyl that we use for fixture supplies.
