 Pre-plumbed drain for water softener
Author: Bill Lewis (AZ)

can the pre-plumbed drain for water softener ever get plugged? For10 years the water softener worked good. Now I can't blow air thru the Pre-plumbed line. Is it plugged or are some lines suppose to be this way. I checked my son's and it is easy to blow thru. Also how would you unclog the line?

I can't imagine how it could happen. THe only thing that goes through it is water.

I can't figure out how it can get plugged either, but I can't blow thru the tube. Also because the 90 degree turns I can't but a small snake thru it either. I have no idea how to check it out. Any Ideas?

Well we know it is not frozen and that is about the only thing that could normally clog it, assuming it goes to a drain line. If it goes outside and is just buried underground, then last week's storms could have flushed dirt into it.

Well its blocked and should be cleared. Can you use a plumber's tape to clear the small ID in the drain? Not a cable, but a flat steel tape.

Best Wishes

NO! It is installed with regular 1/2" elbows and there is nothing that will make the turns. Disconnecting the softener and blowing into it with an air compressor should work.
