I have bought a older home which has two. Kohler toilets installed One if them works fine but takes for ever to refill and seems to do a double flush. I cant read the number too well but it is stamped with ink in the tank and i see 4512. It has a fluid-master High Refill hardware on it with restrictor on the water line
The second toilet looks the same and inside the tank molded in the clay is K4512. This one is cycling water on and off and has the fluid-master 400 which the float sticks up from time to time. It has a separate float on the pull chain.
I don't know if they are different and require different hardware or the previous owner and just didn't know any better or what.
Does Kohler make better replacement parts then fluidmaster orcwhat is recommended for these two units?
Thanks
BonesD

yes - get the proper Kohler parts this time

a lot of kohler fill valves are made by fluidmaster but cost 3 times as much because of the name..
call 1 800 4KOHLER for free replacement parts and free advice.
P/S, do a google search for ' kohler toilet fill valve ' and click on images to see what I mean..

I only use Fluidmasters in Kohler, or any other toilet for that matter.

quote; a lot of kohler fill valves are made by fluidmaster
By "a lot" you mean "almost,if not all, of them".

I'm in agreement that IF one can use a Fluidmaster fill-valve to use it as to me they're pretty reliable.
There are some older Kohler one piece toilets that one can't use a Fluidmaster on.

Thanks for all the quick replies. I will try calling Koehler. Free parts sounds great as long as they are the correct ones.
Thanks again

Some of those are also Fluidmaster, just specialized ones.

Isn't the flapper with the float on the chain, Am.Std.?

Kohler uses it too, especially on their hard plastic flapper.
