My question is, what are the pros and cons of using a manifold system?

We are building a new home and the plumbing contractor is using the Wirsbo product. Most new homes I've seen, and all higher priced homes I've toured, use some sort of manifold system that runs water lines direct to the fixtures. My contractor is not using that kind of system and tells me that, essentially, it is better to plumb the house without it. I see that the plumber has run the Wirsbo lines in a conventional fashion with the fittings, connectors, and so on. Our basement will be finished so that none of the water lines or connectors will be accesible without major issues.

One benefit I can think of is that the hot water is directly linked to the fixture so you wouldn't have to run too much water before you get hot water at the faucet. Another benefit I can think of is that if you had to replace a particular run it would be infinitely easier with a manifold system (disconnect at both ends and pull through?)

so hard to give an opinion without knowing the locations and layout of bathrooms etc..
personally, i am partial to the manifold system with home runs..

Unless it is a particularly short or direct run, you are NOT going to "disconnect both ends and pull it out".
