 Kitchen drain pipe clog???
Author: tsurf (MO)

We have a drain pipe that is attached to our kitchen sink, garbage disposal, and dishwasher. It leads into the wall, into the basement, down to the clean out drain. There are no problems when using the sink or garbage disposal, but the pipe leaks at the top of the coupling when the dishwasher drains. The fact that it is coming out on the top side of the coupling is a concern and makes no sense. Any suggestions? There seems to be a lot of pressure below the coupling, by how forcefully the leak was coming out, but why does this only happen when using the dishwasher? What can we do?

It will probably leak if you fill both bowls full and release them simultaneously. It leaks due to the increased volume of water discharged by the dishwasher. The threaded ends of the pipe are the first to go.

The sheer volume of water and pressure, can overwhelm the capacity of your kitchen drain pipe. Repair is your only option.

How about a photo of the drain connection so we can see where it is leaking.

First you call a good plumber to snake the line, and then if that does not solve the problem, HE can recommend a repair.
