I have a Braukmann D06 F series pressure regulating valve that started to drip recently. It looks like it's about a gallon/day, or a little less. I wanted to test my water pressure before I did anything, and it's 70 psi during the day, but 120 psi overnight.
Should I just replace the PRV or do I need to install an expansion tank? Is it possible that the 120psi broke the PRV and it'll break its replacement, or is the broken PRV causing the high overnight pressure?

Where is it dripping from? That valve does not have vent, so there should not be anywhere it can leak, except if something is broken.

If you are creating a closed system (most are) then you will need an expansion tank.

It's dripping from the cap and the casing, where the tag is. Do I already have a closed system? If so, why isn't there already an expansion tank installed?

It makes a closed system, but that has nothing to do with it leaking. The valve is defective and the best repair is to replace it.
