Leaky shower... Is this fix right?
Author: KenSimone (TX)

A few years ago we paid someone to remodel our master bath. The shower has started leaking down to the first floor. We called the same company, and this is their fix so far. I'm not sure if the intent is to tile directly over this, or if some other back board will be fit over that pile of caulk. Is this correct?

Update: After I complained about the caulk, Lee's Tile in Dallas Texas (the people responsible for this fine job) came out and added some new weep holes for me. Unfortunately, they weep right through the bottom.

Thanks,
Ken

No it's not right! Was a permit pulled or required when the shower was installed? Do not let those hacks proceed. Was a sloped pan installed, under the tile/mortar when the shower was installed(should have been)? My feeling is the floor tile and mortar need to be removed and the floor system replaced properly.

If there is an existing pan under the tile, how is the new drain properly connected to the pan?

that is the wrong shower drain for that application.
i can only be made correct by a complete rip out..

IT appears that their repair, whatever it was, has made the problem worse. I cannot imagine how they would have included a seal to a safety liner, if there was one originally, but at this point I think the only solution is to remove the floor and lower rows of tile, then install a new liner before retiling.
