 washing machine overflow
Author: unhandymandy (TX)

Shortly after starting a load of clothes, the water was filling up, but never stopped and started coming out of the top of the machine. When we noticed it, we turned the machine off and cleaned up the water (a LOT!). Then we turned the knob to end of rinse so that the water started draining. What could cause the water continue to fill past the fill point and what can I do about it (besides call a plumber!)? As always, thanks for any help you can give me!

You have a malfunctioning 'water level sensor switch' that will need to be replaced. That is a job for an appliance repair man.

Either the valve stuck and would not close, or the water level switch did not shut the water off. It is job for an appliance repair person, not a plumber.
