What would be the recommended tape/dope combination to join a 1/2 inch copper threaded FPT adapter with Chrome Plated Copper from bathtub?

Also, how close can I get to these things with a torch without creating a leak? I've heard 6 inches with a wet rag, no less.

Moving lines around and could avoid dissembling the cold side if I heated up an elbow and rolled it.

Thanks

good quality (I use the yellow gas rated) 'teflon' tape

(I know I know it is not correct to say 'teflon' tape as it is/was a Dupont trademark)

Ok that is the double thickness of the regular "blue" roll?

Should add some RectorSeal with the tape too?

it is thicker, not sure if actually double

additional 'dope' is a debatable issue

You do know you CANNOT solder chrome plated copper. You have to file the chrome plating off so you solder to the copper itself.

HJ, Yes I am aware of that. I was asking if it was possible to sweat NEAR a threaded connection on the line with some precautions taken, like wet rags, etc.

It depends on your skill. If you get it too hot, it will expand the female thread and then it will leak when the male one cools and contracts.
