The problem is that I do not have hot water on the left side of my house while the showers and sinks on the right side have hot water functioning normally. The clues:
1) When the hot water source is shut off, no hot water runs in the right side of the house AND on the left side of the house, cold water runs out of the hot side of the sinks (the shower has one handle and mixes the water....but water flows there too just not hot water)
I learned enough from this website to think that problem is called "cross flow"
2) I have delta faucets/I had new irrigation-sprinklers installed in the backyard and this problem started the next day after having worked previosuly.
3) I'm pretty sure I only have one water heater.
4) Again, system worked fine for years, then one day no hot water on the left side of the house....right side working normally
My plumber is stumped. Any ideas? thanks in advance

I'd start with that.

Was the irrigation systems installed by licensed, bonded and certified professionals?

Delta faucets do NOT "crossflow" and it should have nothing to do with work on the irrigation system. IT does sound like a second water heater that has stopped heating.

Thank you both. There was a second water heater after all AND the pilot light was simply out from when gas lines were run to my grill. Wow sometimes the answer is so obvious you can't see it!
