I have been dealing with a sewer smell coming from my shower drain for over a year now. The person who installed the shower swears there is a p trap and I have tried every drain cleaner on the market as well as scrubbed the drain till it's squeaky clean.
The smell is always worse in the summer and when it rains. It comes and goes in severity of smell but I can always smell a trace. It's a small bathroom with just a stall shower. When I use the sink or flush the toilet I hear a gurgling sound coming from the drain as well.
I've researched online what I can but I know nothing about this and have grown tired of dealing with it. The sites I've looked at say it may be a venting problem. My question is how can this be fixed? If it's something I can just do please tell me, or do I need a plumber?
Thank you!

We would guess from your description that it is a venting issue. It will take a plumber to correct it.

Thank you for your reply. Will the plumber need to go on the roof or can this be fixed from the bathroom? I have a very steep roof so that's why I am wondering. I'm also guessing this is going to be expensive :-/

Gurgling in the shower drain when flushing a toilet is smelly air being forced back up thru the p-trap, and usually the loss of the trap seal that keeps the odors out. If the drain has a low spot before connecting to the vent, then it might be an easy and inexpensive fix, depending on ease of access to the piping.
On the other hand if there is no vent pipe whatsoever, then usually its open up a wall and run a vent up thru the roof. That can get expensive.
