Hi Everyone, first time homeowner looking for advice.
The hot water handle (two handle system) recently stopped shutting off the water after turning. Instead of stopping at the usual off position it just keeps going. The only way the water shuts off is by manually turning the screw (after I removed the cap on the handle).
I then managed to remove the handle and get to the [valve stem?] After some research I found that it appears have a 4 point square broach [N type?]... my question is, do I replace the whole [cartridge]? which I am guessing is the culprit since the actual knob grips the broach firmly.

Also, do I have to get the same type of cartridge and if so is there anything I need to know (manufacterer...etc)? Are there any that are recommended?
I appreciate the help, and thanks in advance for your patience with my lack of terminology knowledge!

IF you can shut off the water by turning the screw, then the stem is okay, your problem is that you have a "fit all" handle and that square "broach" is stripped. You need a new square "adapter" for that stem or a new set of handles with the proper broach so you do not need the square adapter.
