 Septic system
Author: vickie.scott.1 (NC)

Hi, my septic tank is probably at least 35 years old. I have had it pumped several times since purchasing home in 2005. Just had it pumped a little over a month ago. Shortly after it was pumped I noticed the area above the septic tank was constantly wet. Currently I have a pool of water on top of the area where the septic tank sits. I have called the company that pumped it a month ago but they haven't sent anyone out yet. I was told that When the second lid was put back on the tank it was cracked; (the top lid) the lid over the tank (first lid was fine). Could this be my problem? The odor is very foul, I honestly don't have a clue as to what type of drain field I have but I believe the tank is a 1000 gallon tank. Cam anyone offer any suggestions?

Your septic pumper guys should be able to identify pretty quickly what the problem is once they pull the lid off and inspect the tank.

How do you determine when to have the tank pumped? How did you determine a month ago?

The septic industry recommends tank pumping every 3-5 years based on a few factors.

Suggestions and Speculation, are the easy part. Resolving your odor issues could be a lot more complication, providing that you supplied all of the facts relevant to your septic system.

Does your septic system have a 3 slab cover? How much dirt covers your septic system? Is the service cover built into one of the slabs? How close is the septic system from the foundation of your house?

Do you have pictures?
Best Wishes
