 epoxy coated split ring hanger
Author: mwr (IN)

I used an epoxy coated split ring hanger with threaded rod on a piece of copper. I believe they are intended for copper but I am not certain.... is this OK to use?

Am I supposed to use an epoxy coated threaded rod ? (if there is such a thing)....

I didn't screw the hanger onto the rod far enough for the rod to touch the pipe but it is feasible that you could tighten all the way and the rod would be touching the copper pipe.

use plated steel rod. it will not rust-up so quickly.
smart on your part to not have the steel rod touch the copper thru the hanger. when installing iron pipe I screw the rod securely against the pipe.

WHY? I install the hangers first and then insert the pipe, so I do NOT adjust the rod once the hanger is positioned correctly.

I just used the threaded rods that come with the hangers in the plumbing section... I assume they are galvanized? Should I change it to plated steel in fear of corrosion?

There is no corrosion if there is no water on them. And even if there were, who cares, it is just a support rod and it will NEVER rust through.

I meant the dissimilar metals of copper vs. threaded rod and corrosion on the pipe.

The rod is not touching the copper and there is no water to act as an electrolyte anyway. It will NOT deteriorate.
