Bathroom Sink Pipes Not Lined Up
Author: bbowman (CA)

Hello there,

So I attempted to install a bathroom vanity/sink for the first time myself. All went well, however when I went to hook up the plumbing with the pipe coming down from the sink the p-trap and that pipe were not lined up. See pic below. I have read about flexible piping, would using that work? I don't want to bend the plastic pipe coming from the sink as I don't want to break it. I was so close to getting everything done on this project, then ran into this problem. Thanks for the help!! -Brady

#1 Loosen the nut and remove trap.
#2 Pull escutcheon away from wall and loosen nut @ #3.This will allow the wall tube to pull out from the wall.
To line up the sink tailpiece and the trap requires the wall tube to pull out a little and the trap to rotate. There are washers at 1, 3 and 4 that should be inspected/replaced and then reassemble the wall tube and trap. Hopefully the tailpiece extension at #4 can be lowered, to insert into the top of the trap, otherwise the extension needs to be replaced with a longer one. There's also a washer at the top of the extension that needs to be checked.

Awesome, that worked. Thanks so much. It didn't even cross my mind to just loosen the one on the wall and pull it out a bit. I thought to myself "duh". Thanks again, saved a trip to the hardware store.
