 # of dfu's for 2" branch in basement.
Author: golliath (CO)

There is a 2" vertical drain in basement that goes into slab. Customer wants to put kitchen sink(currently fixture for this line), new island sink. In basement they want laundry and laundry sink both tied into this. also there is floor drain upstairs(for dog washing) coming to this 2" line. If i am reading ipc correctly a 2" branch can take21 dfu's with a 1/4" slope. What is your guys take on this? thx,

What will you do about individual venting of added fixtures?

Here in NC we can't use a 2" horizontal drain for a washing machine, it must be 3".

there is also a vtr at kitchen sink currently which may sufice for island sink that is about 8' away from it. a studor at washer box should be good for both laundry and laundry sink which have dryer between them so only a few feet apart.

2 inch should be fine for washing machine drain and AAV valves do fail as they are mechanical and increasingly not allowed

I am not sure about the IPC, (it pretty much lets you do anything you want to), but our UPC has a maximum of SIX fus on a 2" branch.

The IPC is clear to me. A Max. of 6 dfu's in a "branch". 21 dfu is max on the
"building drain." Everything is fine all the way down to where the pipe disappears below the floor. At that point a 2" pipe in inadequate.
