 Rusted screw in tub?
Author: will107777 (IN)

Any one have any tips on getting a screw that won't budge to turn? Trying to get some screws out in my bath tub and they won't budge at all, and I'm afraid it will strip if I keep trying. I think it might be rusted or something. Any tricks for getting something like that to budge?

A cordless impact driver may do the trick. Spray some penetrating oil (WD40, etc.) on the threads from behind the access panel first.

What is the screw attaching?

steve, see the post below...
it is a tub overflow he is asking about.
to answer the question, as suggested, spray penetrating oil from the access panel and the screws will come right out.
use a nice big flat screwdriver that does not have a rounded off end.
grab the flat part with a small crescent wrench for added force.

So I used the WD on the screw front and back and put a ton of pressure, but the screw literally twisted itself in half about an inch down - the back of the screw is still sticking out of the access panel - I tried to use some pliers and twist it from the back and couldn't get either screw the budge. The other screw has not broken in half, but is just getting more and more stripped. I'm running out of ideas - any last minute stuck screw tricks before I call in some paid help?
