valves and tubing question from spring/well on hill
Author: brews4me (CO)

my well is 2000 feet from house and on a hill for gravity feed.

I want to replace the old galvanized pipe and bad parts at well with new parts, out of well box is I believe 2.5 inches.
Have to dig it up for sure.

several questions.

What type of a valve is best? and what material?? I'm thinking ball valve and it will be below grade for temp protection.

What type of valve is needed to access from above once the valve is in a pit??

is there some rule for depth?? I'm in Colorado.

I need to step down from 2.5 inches to 3/4 inch since that's the size of PVC that runs 2000 feet, can I step it down immediately or do I need to do it over some distance???

access - valve handle extension - [www.bing.com]

depth - below the frost line - for Colorado I would guess 48"

reduction - at any point - one or multiple steps is ok

I would use a "T" handle "curb stop" with a riser for use with a "key". The shorter you make the small size pipe the better your flow will be.
