 Water line supply from meter
Author: bigjohn767 (GA)

I'm up in the air about what size water supply to get from the meter to my home. I have been through all the tables, etc. and have a WSFU of 29.5. The static pressure is 85psi. The distance to the home is 200' and it goes up about 15' - 20' from the meter. The only choices I have for a meter is 1" or 2" supply. I am leaning towards the 1" because it will cost an extra $900 for the 2" meter base. Am I being penny wise and pound foolish?

You will NEVER need a 2" meter. The water line can be either 1 1/2" or 2" depending on how much you want to spend for the material.

you can/may have a 1" meter with a 1.5" main supply to house ~ simply increase at meter outlet

You can have a 1" meter with ANY size main supply to the house, however, there is a point at which a larger pipe ceases to provide any benefits.

correct

my 'gut' says 1.5" will be adequate to compensate for the friction loss of 200' of 'smooth bore' supply pipe incl. the 20' 'head loss' from elevation

my gut says there will be 20-30 psi dynamic under max flow

if 'paranoid' run 2" to further reduce friction loss (imo = overkill)
