Hi everyone, I have a question for you. I need to run my house gutter downspout drains under a planned driveway. My question is regarding the 14 inch max depth of a 4 inch pipe under the "top" of the asphalt to the bottom of the pipe. My thought is to bed the pipe in process but should it be cast iron or can I use the sch 40? Pipe needs to cross over the width of driveway (18 feet) in two places to a lower section of yard that is void of the vast amount of ledge we have here in Connecticut. I prefer the 40 in a 20 ft section but??
What might be your take on this?
Many thanks for your time here!
Bob

For that application, you can use anything you want to. Sch 40 plastic pipe is more than adequate, and some would even use the thin SDR PVC.

Schedule 40 PVC but only if it is fully encased in sand or similar aggregate.

as others have said, PVC sch 40 is fine.
there is a BIG difference between sewer piping and rainwater piping.
surround it in 6 inches of fine sand, also as suggested.
