 Remove cleanout?
Author: damoly (NC)

I've decided to replace a 48" bath vanity on a 2nd floor bath but because of the cleanout jetting out of the back wall, I am very limited on the choice of vanities that I can replace it with. The cleanout is located right of the drain rough in about 15" and sits above the floor at 6". Unless I get a vanity with a completely open back with no drawers, I can't find a decent replacement. I am in Durham, NC and unless it is required by code, I am thinking about removing it. Any ideas?

Can you open up the wall and move the cleanout ?

I was actually thinking about opening up the wall and moving it up a few inches so at least it will clear the base of a cabinet. It is located on a vertical section of PVC that vents to the roof so up is the only option. Unfortunately, many vertical drawer supports are located at the rear of most vanities and unless I can move it horizontally, it will still interfere with those supports.

It is almost a guarantee that if you remove it, you WILL need it someday.
