I have had two plumbers state that I had blue polybutylene pipe running from the street to my house. I had it replaced. In talking to my neighbor afterwards who is an original owner, she stated that the builder's documentation to the house states that no polybutylene piping was used. Our houses were built in the 90's. Was there any other type of blue colored pipe available at this time? I am concerned now that both plumbers gave me bad advice in order to get a big project.

I have a piece of the pipe that was replaced. Is there anyway to tell by looking at it what it actually is? There is no wording on the pipe to help identify it.

If it is 1" or smaller it is probably polybutylene, there also was a pipe named Big Blue which is also very problematic. Polybutylene was maiinly installed from 1978-1995 and resulted in many class action lawsuits. At first I was thinking it could be C900 or C905, but that comes in larger pipe size normally 4" and up.

Thanks. The pipe replaced was 1 inch. My house was built in 1999. Based on the year built is it still a good chance it is polybutylene?

I have never seen a blue pipe which was NOT polybutylene. 1999 was after the time for the class action settlement, but it was still being used. The "no PB" statement probably referred to the indoors piping.
