Stub-out pipe came out of wall
Author: janetbrauns (MI)

Hi, everyone. I need some help. I took the trap and elbow off the bathroom sink to augur. When I was done, I replaced the old metal pieces with PVC. I tried to get a nut off the metal stub-out, because I thought it belonged to the old elbow.

Instead, the whole four-inch piece came out in my hand. I pushed it back in as far as I could, installed the new PVC parts, and turned on the faucet. It dripped at the metal nut.

I stuck a screwdriver through the void under the stub-out. It went in four inches, hit something hard, came out clean. But the stub-out is no longer flush with the wall.

How bad is this?

I have good images on my computer rather than on the web, but I don't see how to upload them.

Thank you!

How do I include an image in my post or signature?"
For security reasons, we do not allow uploading of any files (including images) directly to our site. However, you can reference an external image by using any online photo posting sites such as Photobucket.com (which is free) to show your image(s) here at Plbg.com. Visit photobucket.com and open a free account, if you don't already have one. Once you're signed in, you can upload images to your account. You can then create a link to the picture or you can have the picture show up directly in your post here at plbg.com by completing the following the steps:
Upload the image to photobucket
Click the image on photobucket
On the left you'll see a box that says 'share this image'
Copy the 'direct link' - if you aren't familiar with copy & paste, simply write it down
To get it to show up in a post on this forum, paste (or type) the direct link in between these tags:

 Thanks, everyone

Thanks, everyone. I've learned that the tube that came out wasn't the stub-out. It was siliconed inside the stub-out as a way around getting the stuck slip nut off the end of the stub-out (nipple?). That nut has to come off, and part of the wall has to be opened to get to it. It's possible the nipple pipe itself may need replacing or trimming.
