Hello,
I have installed a new hot water heater. Since the install I have had this loud rumble noise coming from the hot water heater area. I have figured out it is only when the pilot lights. If I turn the pilot to vacation mode and run the hot water no noise. Turn the water off and turn it to any temp so the pilot lights. I hear the normal poof of the pilot then this very deep and LOUD rumble sound. The water heater is installed in the house (very old house). It has all the correct ventilation and I have even left door open it doesn't matter. I hope someone can tell me if this is fixable or I should return it for a new one?

The pilot is ALWAYS lit, unless you have an electronic ignition, so you must be referring to the main burner when it ignites. It sounds like you have excessive combustion, and that only has a couple of causes. Contact the manufacturer for a service representative.
