 toilet wont fill properly
Author: DS (OK)

The fill valve on my toilet broke and there was a crack in the tube that water pores into so i replaced the whole system with a new flush valve, fill valve etc that i bought for $20 called fluid master. Now when it flushes it wont fill with water all the way or it keeps filling without stopping, sometimes it wont fill at all unless i manually press down on it or up on it to stop the water. I installed everything according to the instructions but this "easy install" was predictable, nothing works. How can i fix this, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a picture of the system, that black thing on the left have to press down manually or up to get it to work.

You have a Fluidmaster with the "flush sentry system". IF the water leaks out, it will NOT refill until you trip the flush lever to release the float and let it drop. I have NEVER installed one, but I have REMOVED many of them.

I would use a Fluidmaster 400A.

From the picture, you should not have the flush handle plastic chain attached to the fill valve. It should go from the flush handle arm to the red flapper valve at the bottom of your tank. The black float on the flush valve will shut the water off. It can be adjusted per instructions that came with the valve.

After looking closer at your picture, I am positive you need to remove the plastic chain completely. I can now see the stainless chain from the arm to the flapper. That plastic chain is stopping the correct operation of the float. You should not have that chain touching the fill valve in any way. Trust me, I installed hundreds of this model and they are much better than the ball type float. Try it before you waste your money and time.

I removed it but now when the water drains all the way it wont auto-fill it just stops.
