My son was playing catch with a friend in our backyard with a baseball and he said it bounced right up and into our septic vent. Ours is the big pvc candycane kind sticking out of the ground. We have our own septic and well. Now our toilets are having a hard time flushing. They get clogged a lot. Are there any home remedies at all? Do you think the ball is what's causing the problem? Any kind of estimations as to how much it might cost to get it taken care of? Thanks!

dig around the candy cane pipe and cut it right about ground level. look inside to see what you can see.
you can put the pipe back together with a standard PVC 4 inch coupling and some glue.

The baseball will have to be removed. A screen or baffle should be used to prevent that from happening again.

Do you have any idea what the odds are for it happening ONCE, much less a second time?

Oh come on HJ. You must have had kids of your own. There is no way a ball could have bounced up and lodge itself perfectly in the vent elbow. Kids get curious and put things where they don't belong. I'm sure it could happen again...

If it's stuck in the vent, a shop-vac might get it out.

I'm guessing that someone hasn't been on the flat roof of a school with several vent pipes.... full of pebbles. Almost any exposed vent, will draw curious kids.
I really don't know the odds of it happening again. Much depends on if the kids get punished, after the bill is paid.

You mean like the people I saw tossing beer cans into the fire department siamese connection outside a building?

HE said it is an 'inverted U', so it would take a weird bounce to jump up INTO the opening and make it around the 180 degree turn.
