Problem with a Grohe 35 016 shower valve wont shut off
Author: ajahearn (CA)

I'm hoping you guys can help me again. This time I have a different Grohe valve. It woulnd't shut off about a month ago but I found the service manual showing an adjustment for the water cutoff is a small brass piece that fits over the spline of the handle. Previously I adjusted the brass a couple of degrees and it solved the problem. I tried this again but now the water won't shut off regardless of the rotation of the handle. I'm guessing like the other valve this means the pressure balancing valve is gone. Does that sound correct? I'm going to try to get Grohe to replace this one (they replaced the other one but only after several email exchanges).

One other question, the chrome handle trip is loose now and comes off easily. Is there anyway to tighten this up? I really wish there was some kind of set screw to hold it in place. The plastic parts are clearly the weak point.

Thanks again.

I got a replacement part from Grohe. Unfortunately now I think I've asked them for the wrong part. The valve in the wall does not have any visible part number so I went by eye and matched it on their website. Looking over the PDF for the valve assembly everything seemed to match what I had however When I took out the pressure valve from my setup the part is gray but otherwise almost identical to the part I received (a 47 678 which is black). Aside from the color the side ports are slightly different as well but not wildly different. When I tried to insert the replacement valve it will not fit. Interior to the wall vale there are two screen filter assemblies inserted on the hot and cold lines. It is these assemblies that prevent the new valve from seating. The new valve also came with replacement screens for these side assemblies. I looked all over the original part and cannot find any number on it whatsoever. How do you resolve this situation? Should I take pictures and send them to Grohe and see if they can figure out which valve I have? Thanks in advance.
