Symptoms of a drain connected above a vent

I was at my friend's place which is located on the second floor of a 3 floors condo complexe. I was in the bathroom washing my hands when I heard gurgling sound in the wall. I think the above neighboor flushed her toilet. She is renting the place and considering purchasing soon. I did not tell her anything about that but I was wondering how can you tell if a vent is connected below a toilet drain?

Author: hj (AZ) Probably no way without actually seeing the piping. But, the sound you heard could just be normal, otherwise the gurgling would have come from the sink, not in the wall.
