There that green powdery stuff on the pipe that enters my basement thru the foundation... the main before the meter.
Picture a copper pipe coming thru a foundation and in this case there is a 1" band of green around it directly where it first exits the foundation. Theres some sort of caulk or rubberized stuff filling the gap in the hole but the pipe itself is not covered. The rest of the pipe up to the meter is almost black and you would have to scrap that stuff off to see copper. This pipe is 60 years old.
Its not a soldered connection ie the flux turning green.... should I be concerned with this?

Blame Mother Nature or Science. Your basement must be humid and that is a natural reaction. Try hanging an old rag soaked in white vinegar, overnite and see if it disappears for a while.

So does anyone think I should be considering replacing this? I know your not here to actually see it but I am unclear if this vigaritis? or powdery substance has jeopardized the integrity of that pipe.... im leary to even touch it.
