 Lav floor drain
Author: tbeswick (Non-US)

Hello,

My lavatory drain comes straight out of the floor currently and into the bottom of my vanity. I would like to move my vanity and in order to re configure I would need to have a 45 degree fitting coming out of the floor slightly, to complete the 90 degree transition. Besides being ugly, is this any kind of code violation?

Thanks

If your lav drain comes straight out the floor, in my USA UPC world it already doesn't meet code, which isn't to say it might often work on a lav. An offset shouldn't matter at this point.

about every drain in my big old 5 bathroom house (C. 1760) come out of the floor. we have been here since 1984 and have not died of bubonic plague..
there are 3 old 4" cast iron stack so there must be enough air floating around so when one toilet is flushed we never hear any gurgling in the lav's or kitchens
if you don't hear any gurgling you are probably OK.

Go ahead and do it, you're good to go.

Here, just coming out of the floor might be a code violation. We do not know what YOUR code allows.

By implication then, all your sinks had "S" traps, but that was common with lead pipe installations. The toilets did not necessarily cause the gurgling, it was the sinks themselves after they drained.

Hello All,

I should have added, This sink will be vented to code standards still, with p-trap, its just the wall that this sink sits against, is right on top of a floor joist. Essentially making it impossible to bring the pipes up through the wall.

Im going to call the inspector on monday and see what he thinks

Thanks for your help!

an 'offset' is just fine as long as the venting is maintained
