Had leaky tub faucet. Went to replace the washers and decided to replace the whole thing (handles were "fused" to the stems so I replaced the seats, stems and handles). System is Central Brass with hot/cold/diverter handles... No more leaking, but I have a new problem!
Hot water starts strong after 1/4 turn.
Water pressure decreases to a dribble (starts slowing after a few seconds but takes about 15 seconds to get down to the dribble).
Adding another 1/4 turn helps, but pressure still drops.
I keep turning the handle until I get enough pressure to take a bath or shower.
Steps taken to resolve:
-- Looked for debris behind stem. None found.
-- Replaced hot water stem (again). No change.
What should I look at next?
(I got an " old style" diverter and I wonder if I should have used the "new style" diverter)
Thank you,
Brian

sounds like the washer on the hot side is too soft and is expanding with the heat.

Diverter has nothing to do with the problem. Either the washer is expanding when it gets hot, or the brass stem does not raise very far above the seat, with a 1/4 turn, and as it gets hot it expands and closes the opening.

if you go by your local hardware store and tell them you need a washer for hot water, they will have some. bring your other one with you to match the size.
there are lots of space age synthetic washers that will not swell when they get hot.

Fixed! The "Danco" stem was the problem. A plumbing store had an actual Central Brass stem and the issue is now resolved! Thank you everyone for your help!
