How would I go about shopping for a garbage disposal by the height size? I want to locate the make and model and then go pick it up at a store. It seems difficult to search for a garbage disposal that fits my needs. I want a 8 inches or shorter, 3/4 hp, continuous feed that comes with a electric cord.
I find it so hard to search for appliances based on size or features.
Any ideas?

as for an electric cord, you can buy one at a hardware store and put it on the machine in a couple of minutes.

You are going to find that the sink to outlet dimension is almost the same for EVERY manufacturer. The only ones that are different, and their drain is lower, are the "batch feed" ones with the switch in the strainer.

You may have to purchase the plug-in cord separately. Or use from the old one.

I always buy, and install, disposers with the cord preassembled, but only because it makes the replacement faster.

s/s cutters & chamber - 3/4 hp - 5 yr. warranty
the cord probably will need installation as the appliance itself may be installed in a variety or manners
imo: the best being 'seal-tight' hardwired to a watertight box
however:
SJT cord properly installed is acceptable under the NEC as long as the receptacle is GFCI

In most areas it is connected with a "pigtail cord" into a duplex box with the dishwasher in one opening and the dispose in the other, and a GFCI CANNOT be "split wired", but they are "dedicated" outlets which will normally NEVER be used with an extension cord so they are exempt from the GFCI requirement..

...sorry, meant to say GFCI protected
as in GFCI circuit breaker
again: good practice versus code MINIMUM since said receptacle is UNDER THE SINK

My "good practice" is to NEVER use a GFCI if it is dedicated to a single appliance and not where someone would use it to connect an extension cord for a power tool

the exemption for residential was made before stainless liners were common and risk of actual contact was minimal
potential:
case of d/w becomes live due to lost ground w/o tripping breaker (not explained very well)
I know, a shocking possibility
yes I do, crack myself up
