Hopefully, I can describe this so that my problem is understood, so here goes. We were not getting hot water in the bathroom sink we had a supposedly licensed plumber come out. To avoid breaking up the floor, he tapped into what used to be our washer hook up by installing a cooper tee on the pipe and running pipe through the wall and cross the ceiling and down to the bathroom sink. So the first day, we did get hot water from the faucet. However, it wasn't long before we noticed that even though the faucets were all off, we could still hear water running through the pipes non-stop. And that has led to cutting off the water main each evening so that we can have hot water in the mornings because if we leave it on, the water heater would be constantly trying to heat water because it thinks there's a "request" for hot water somewhere. We only hear the water running in the pipes from the tapped line to the bathroom faucet. After multiple calls, we have been unable to reach the plumber, so any help you can provide to help us troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated!

Hearing water running thru pipes and simultaneously not having enough hot water would probably indicate a sizeable leak somewhere. It will have to be found and corrected.

quote; is there a trap primer off the bathroom sink?
Even if there were, and it is very unlikely, it would be on the cold water line and thus not even a consideration for this person. If there was a hot water leak, and the indications are that there is, then the "plumber" would have had to disconnect the leaking pipe when he rerouted the water to the faucet. So, it appears that you HAVE a leak, and HAD an incompetent plumber, if what you described is actually what was done.
