 tub drop cylinder
Author: ripcurlsp02 (CA)

Hello,

I'm having an issue installing a new drop cylinder in my tub. The last one was plastic and broke off in the overflow but I was able to fish it out with a coat hanger. I am trying to install a metal one and I can get it to go about 90% of the way down but it just won't go the final inch and a half. The diameter is the same and I have tried cooking spray, dish soap and veggie oil to lubricate but it just won't go.

I am definitely just a fairly mechanically minded novice so if anyone has any ideas, no matter how hair brained they may seem, I would be very appreciative.

Thanks

I'm guessing that its just too large in diameter.

yeah, too large.
the seal they create is not from the outside surface contacting the inside of the tubing. the seal is from the tapered bottom of the cylinder settling into a mating surface.

They are NOT interchangeable, sometimes even if they were made by the same manufacturer. If it doesn't go down, then it is the wrong size, and even if you did get it in, it might not operate properly. EVERYTHING about it would have to be exactly like the one you removed.
